About Gruyère Pays-d'Enhaut Regional Nature Park

Gruyère Pays-d'Enhaut Regional Nature Park is a protected area located in the foothills of the Swiss Alps, spanning parts of the Vaud and Fribourg cantons. Established in 2012, the park covers a mosaic of forests, alpine meadows, rolling pastures, and mountainous terrain ranging from gentle hills to rugged peaks exceeding 2,000 meters. It is home to a wealth of biodiversity including native alpine flora and fauna such as marmots, chamois, and golden eagles. The park places strong emphasis on preserving traditional agriculture, cheese production (notably Gruyère cheese), and the unique cultural heritage of its small villages including Gruyères and Château-d'Œx. Visitors can explore a wide network of well-marked hiking and biking trails, as well as winter sports opportunities like cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Several historic landmarks, including medieval castles and Swiss architectural landmarks, enrich the visitor experience. The park supports sustainable tourism and outdoor recreation, balancing conservation with community livelihoods. Scenic views of Lake Geneva and the surrounding Alps add to the park’s appeal, offering panoramic vistas.
